It is called semi-permanent make up just because, to maintain optimum results, it is necessary to adjust the treatment once a year for eyebrows and once every 1 or 2 years for lips and eyes.
The permanent make-up pigments that are used during the treatments do not contain acrylic resins and are hypoallergenic; produced according to strict European safety standards.
The most common and most requested treatments are the total or partial definition / re-construction of the eyebrow arch, the pigmentation of the lips and the eyeliner.

Microblading
Microblading is one of the leading treatments in the beauty industry. Phibrows is the microblading style we use at our salon, applied by our Phibrows Artist, Therese Farrugia. This is a semi-permanent, manual, eyebrow drawing technique, drawn with a specific tool that creates very fine lines. These lines look like hair, based on the shape of the eyebrow and the face, achieving perfect symmetry. This technique is ideal for someone who has had no previous semi-permanent make up on the area and would like to have very natural looking eyebrows. This technique is applied in two sessions; the second session is usually applied after six weeks.
Hair stroke eyebrow Technique / Powdered Brows| Ombre brows
The ideal semi-permanent make up is when the technique applied is as natural and invisible as possible. Making it look natural is a must for us! The hair stroke technique is ideal to fill-in the natural sparse hair and the powder brows effect is a shading technique that is ideal for those who are used to filling in their eyebrows with pencil. If our SPMU artist feels that a combined technique is a better choice for you, it can be applied too. Past applications may restrict the desired effect. Also, during consultation, skin type is discussed and explained in order to help choose the best and most adequate technique.
The Eyebrow Treatments: Firstly, measurements and drawings are carefully applied with specific tools and trained experience. This ensures the best symmetrical shape for the client’s morphology face requirements, using the same colour chosen, so that the client has a visual idea of the result. Using sterilised, disposable tools and needles, the artist creates micro cuts on the skin, while manually inserting pigment into the epidermis (superficial layer of the skin), during Microblading or with a machine for powder brows or hair stroke technique. A treatment could take between two to three hours to be completed. The inserted pigment is much darker during the first 5-7 days, after which, the intensity of the colour decreases by as much as 40%. The healing process may last up to 42 days, after which, a new amount of pigment is re-applied as required in the second session. In cases where the skin is oily or problematic, the process is repeated several times. Pigment retention depends on skin oiliness; a higher concentration of oil in the skin reduces the duration of the pigment. Perspiration and sun exposure also effects pigments. Average pigment retention is 10-12 months. After this period, touch-ups are required to refresh the colour. If the skin is too oily, corrections are performed after 6 months. Lip Contour Semi-permanent make-up
This treatment is applied to correct the lips, making them symmetrical, as well as enhancing the look of the lips, all whilst reducing the appearance of ageing lines. Lips will look more full, natural, and beautiful! During consultation we will discuss the colour that would most suit you, from our vast range of top-quality pigments. The lip is applied in two sessions and a touch up session is required twelve to twenty-four months afterwards.

This provides a guideline during the treatment and serves to correct any irregularities in the shape of the natural lip. When the desired contour is prepared, the drawing is applied using a semi-permanent machine which deposits pigment into the skin, gently, to avoid injury to the skin, while being stretched without pressure. Eyeliner Semi permanent make-up
Bold technique and powder technique are the two options for semi-permanent liners, depending on the desired effect. During the consultation, the artist will analyse and discuss the best style for you and the thickness of the liner, according to the aesthetic criteria. The eyeliner is applied in two sessions and a touch up session is required twelve to twenty-four months afterwards. The drawing of the liner is drawn from the outer eye, towards the inner corner of the eye, serving as a guideline during the treatment. When the desired liner is prepared, the drawing is applied using a semi-permanent machine which deposits pigment into the skin, gently, to avoid injury to the skin while being stretched without pressure. Pre-treatment Process
There are some cases where it’s good to postpone semi-permanent make up treatment. In some, it is completely impossible.

Before the actual treatment, at consultation, you will be asked to sign an informed consent form. After the artist has explained: How the treatment will take place, what precautions you will need to take in the first week after treatment and why your personal and sensitive data will be collected.
For a successful outcome of the treatment
In the eyebrow area: In cases of eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, acne or any damage to the skin, it is recommended to apply a specific cream for seven days pre-treatment, to eliminate the issue, if possible, to be able to have the treatment done.
For the Lips: Whether the client is prone to Herpes or not, it is necessary to undertake all measures to prevent its appearance. The artist will recommend the ideal pre-treatment procedure because due to the stimulation procured on the area during the treatment, Herpes could be triggered. This will prolong the healing process of the lips post-treatment; therefore, it is ideal to take immune support supplements prior to treatment. Dry lips should be treated for several days prior to treatment. Alcoholic beverages, beverages containing taurine and excessive consumption of caffeine at least 24-48 hours prior to treatment should be avoided
About Medicines…
Some medicines interact in terms of colour rendering in the skin; for example, they can cause an eyebrow colour to not maintain its original colour, becoming particularly grey, thus causing an unpleasant result. These medicines are: antibiotics, cortisone, eutirox, diabetes medicines taken at high levels. Many other medicines can interfere in this way, but with much more moderate changes in colour and therefore easily corrected by the professional.
Other medicines interact with the duration of treatment; in these cases, permanent makeup will remain for much less time inside the skin. These drugs are: vessel dilators, accelerating metabolism supplements, hormones.
Taking medicines like the contraceptive pill does not affect permanent makeup, so it is possible to have semi-permanent make-up done.
Undergoing Medical treatment…
If you are undergoing medical treatment, it is always ideal to wait for the conclusion of this period and obtain written consent from the doctor, authorising the treatment of semi-permanent make-up.
This category may include: chemotherapy, radiotherapy, intake of immune suppressants, cortisone treatments.
Allergies…
If you have an allergy to latex or nickel, please inform us. Allergies to dyes, food allergies and allergies to dust do not prevent you from having semi-permanent makeup done.
For Beauty Treatment…
30 days is the time necessary for the skin to rebuild and heal completely. It is always recommended that you wait until the skin has healed completely before subjecting it to a subsequent operation on the same area.
If we talk about fillers, it is good practice to wait 30 days after the last filler before undergoing a permanent makeup session and vice versa; wait 30 days after the last permanent makeup session before having fillers in the same area.
The same rule also applies to Botox and thread treatments.
For more invasive treatments, such as lasers or chemical peels or lifting, it is necessary to wait for 2 to 5 months.

Is it Painful?
Semi-permanent makeup is usually a very well tolerated procedure.
Pain perception is obviously totally subjective and therefore it is hard to specifically quantify it.
What is sure is that the delicate dexterity of the operator and the quality of the needles used contribute to making the treatment even more painless.
Low quality needles, not sharpened, create greater friction when entering and leaving the skin, resulting in a sensation of pain. We use the highest quality and therefore, the operator will only use needles designed to be non-invasive on the skin, effective but not painful!
As a consequence, even the post treatment redness will be minimal, allowing you to immediately return to your daily activities.
Nowadays, the eyebrow treatment is totally painless. Indeed, customers even find it relaxing and fall asleep after a few minutes. This is especially compared to treatments done in the past where the operators used to work on the deeper layers of the skin.
The eye treatment is slightly more annoying. Clients usually describe it as a nuisance rather than pain; often comparable to the feeling of having a grain of sand in the eye. There might also be some swelling post treatment.
The lip treatment is somewhat annoying in the beginning, but nothing that a woman cannot withstand! Customers usually compare it to the pain of waxing or laser epilation. Pre and post treatment recommendations are to be followed well to ensure a successful result.
